Torrevieja is 35kms south of Alicante airport, and just a two and a half hours flight from London. Easy access to Torrevieja for visitors, and the town's many facilities and attractions make Torrevieja a popular year-round holiday destination in Spain.

Torrevieja is surrounded by two huge saltwater lagoons. The salt lakes, the largest in Europe, have been designated as National Parks and are truly an impressive sight, attracting more than 250 bird species including flamingos. Salt has been produced in the Torrevieja area since Roman times and even today the town exports salt all over the world.

During the Roman times Torrevieja was an important Spanish port, and the remains of the original Roman docks can still be seen near the ancient watch tower of La Mata.

Torrevieja once had the largest fleet of sailing boats in the Mediterranean, and today has one of Spain's best yacht clubs, with berths for 1,500 boats. Torrevieja also has first class facilities for all sports enthusiasts, including golf, flying and water sports. Torrevieja's municipal stadium has an athletics track, a sauna, covered tennis courts and a variety of other sports.

Torrevieja has a great variety of shops and boutiques, and fine selection of restaurants, bars and pubs along the seafront and throughout the town. Torrevieja also has a bull ring, an aqua-park, a fairground, a theatre and several cinemas.

Like many Spanish towns, Torrevieja enjoys its Fiestas throughout the year, giving holiday-makers the opportunity to join in with the Spanish and party in the streets.

August sees the week-long Las Habaneras festival - a major international music competition attracting a live and television audience of hundreds of thousands. This festival is a celebration of Latin American music and rhythms which were brought to Torrevieja in the 19th century as a result of the port's salt-trading links with Cuba.

Torrevieja has an outstanding variety of restaurants, offering Spanish and international cuisine from counties as far apart as Britain, Italy, France, Germany, China, India, Mexico, Serbia, Croatia and may others.

Torrevieja has a range of holiday accommodation, fine beaches and culture, and there are plenty of museums and information for the whole area. Renting a Torrevieja holiday apartment or villa will let you truly discover the region.
